The fascinating Lagrein shows great complexity now that the vines have some age. Look for blackberries and black spice! The Dolcetto softens the palate and offers a burst of fruit to please and entice. This is designed for immediate pleasure, but has enough structure for a few years of cellaring.
Winemaker Ben Glaetzer reckons the 2016 vintage might be the finest he has ever seen from Langhorne Creek. Perfect growing conditions led him to be able to experiment with a new wine and new wine-making techniques resulting in the Foreign Correspondent.
This fragrant, elegant red is made from two varietals from Northern Italy, Lagrein and Dolcetto, giving it notes of bitter cherry and Provencal herbs. In the words of Ben, 'It is a serious red that doesn’t ask to be taken seriously'.
The aromas of this wine are as tempting as they are intoxicating. The depth of black forest fruit is framed by the smooth chocolate and vanilla of judicious oak. Directors’ Cut Shiraz is enhanced by the hints of spice so closely associated with the Langhorne Creek region. The lingering finish foreshadows a wine with many years of potential cellaring ahead…if you can be that patient. If not, enjoy!

Only the finest Cabernet vineyards in Langhorne Creek contributed to Directors’ Cut. The old vine fruit is the cornerstone of this wine's character. The fruit was harvested at night to retain freshness. Initial skin contact was followed by 7 days of cool fermentation with our Rhône isolate yeast and hand-plunging three times daily. Maturation then occurred in new oak hogsheads (both French and American) for approximately 14 months. The weight of fruit in Directors’ Cut Cabernet Sauvignon showcases how much of Langhorne Creek Ben can fit into one bottle. An almost impenetrable core of fruit is seasoned with dark spice like licorice, nutmeg and anise.
